Justice Sullivan has dedicated his professional life to upholding the rule of law and defending the Constitution. He was appointed to the Texas Supreme Court by Governor Greg Abbott on January 7, 2025, after serving as the Governor's General Counsel.

We need sturdy judges on the Texas Supreme Court who won't back down when our freedoms are on the line. Texans know they can count on Justice Sullivan to stand firm.

"As General Counsel for the Office of the Governor, James Sullivan has provided superior legal advice and rendered opinions on some of the most consequential legal issues in Texas. He has the integrity, temperament, and experience Texas needs as a Texas Supreme Court Justice."

Born and raised in Texas, Justice Sullivan grew up in Austin, where he was an Eagle Scout and an extra in the movie "Dazed & Confused." A proud Chaparral, he once held several Westlake High School powerlifting records. He was a highly un-recruited football walk-on at Rice University, until a back injury turned him into a debater.

Once in law school, Justice Sullivan met his wife, Alithea, on the Harvard Law Review. They are the proud parents of Conan. After graduating, Justice Sullivan clerked on the D.C. Circuit, served in the Office of the Solicitor General under then-A.G. Greg Abbott, and worked as a litigator in private practice and an adjunct professor.
